   YELLOWHORN

(Xanthoceras sorbifolium) A very uncommon nut tree from northern China. It unites foliage recalling mountain ash, flowers like horse-chestnut tree, and nuts tasting like a macadamia. It grows like a sumac --a large shrub or small tree. It is attractive, very cold-hardy, drought tolerant, and tough. It prefers full sun and a high ph which is perfect for our climate. It is both splendidly beautiful in bloom, and useful in fruit, providing nuts which are about the size of pinons and with a similar flavor. This plant loves hot and dry summers!
